Description

This is a 7 hour per day, 200 day per year paraprofessional contract.  The extended contract is one extra week in June and one extra week in August to support family and student transitions to and from school and to support Tribal activities.  This is a fully grant funded position.

 

Tribal Family Advocates work directly with Tribal students, Tribal families, staff, administration, The Klamath Tribes, and our larger community to identify attendance and behavior issues and then assist in coordinating resources and supports. The position will monitor student attendance and behavior data, assisting the school in establishing systems for improvement. The position works under the supervision of the building principal and TAPP director and adheres to school regulations and district policy.  Tribal Family Advocates seek out and provide resources to parents and children which will enhance the parent’s ability to ensure their child(ren) attends school on a daily basis and succeeds academically and socially.  TFA’s maintain ongoing contact with families and work with other components (health, nutrition, family, services, mental health, special services, parent education, Tribal resources, etc.) to integrate services into the family setting.

Essential Job Responsibilities (not intended as a complete list):

  • Assess individual Tribal student needs as well as existing family needs, and work with school staff and administration to provide and/or coordinate resources. These may include: teacher development and training, removing barriers at home, providing social services, trauma training, and parent engagement.
  • Help ensure a positive and supportive connection between Tribal students, their families, and the school and district.
  • Support and provide leadership at school-wide functions, staff meetings, and other appropriate school and/or district activities associated with TAPP.
  • Coordinate the development of communication materials.
  • Promote and work with schools to create a welcoming and inviting culture where all children feel welcomed, supported, and excited to attend.
  • Create and maintain programs to promote positive school culture, social/emotional wellbeing, cultural responsive practices, and regular daily attendance.
  • Create specialized plans between students, teachers, and families that allow students to meet attendance and academic requirements.
  • Be a resource for support in an incident, emergency, situation, or other need as determined by administration or Tribe.
  • Access and analyze data to support and monitor students and programs.
  • Complete TAPP accountability reports as necessary.
  • Attend TAPP meetings as required.
  • Communicate effectively in a courteous, tactful, and professional manner.
  • Other duties intended to support regular school attendance and the well-being of Tribal students.
  • This position may require flexibility in work hours with occasional weekend and after school attendance required.
