The TAPP Family Advocate is knowledgeable about Native American history and culture, specifically those of The Klamath Tribes.  The preferred candidate will have experience in social services and/or education, and will be skilled in communicating with multiple stakeholders.  The TAPP Family Advocate must have proficient computer skills with the ability to read and write at an early college level.  Helping manage a budget using spreadsheets is also required.  This position has responsibilities associated with grant reporting as well as supporting Native students and families with regular school attendance.  The Tribal Council of The Klamath Tribes reviews and approves the candidates for this position.  Regular attendance is an essential component of this position.

 

Some classified positions with the Klamath County School District require:  AA Degree from an accredited institution or Transcripts proving the applicant has completed two (2) years in an institution of Higher Education, or a passing grade on a General Knowledge Test given by Klamath County School District.

 

Physical ability to adhere to OSHA and district safety regulations.  Work within the district’s communicable disease control plan (blood borne pathogens) and be aware of the existence and potential exposure to hazardous chemicals as identified on the MSDS sheets.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB SKILLS AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Not Limited To)

1. COMMUNICATION & SKILLS
• Ability to communicate and create respectful relationships with students, families, and staff.
• Ability to collaborate with parents, school, and students to increase school attendance and school success.
• Regularly check in with families to identify reasons for absence and work with families to find a solution.
• Maintain confidentiality when associated with the Klamath County School District and The Klamath Tribes Education and Social Service Departments.
• Consult with teachers, administrators and other school staff regarding social and emotional needs of students
• Monitor attendance data and provide reports to KCSD and Tribal partners.


2. PROFESSIONAL & TECHNICAL
• Maintains the established monitoring system that assures compliance with program goals and standards.
• Assist with the identification and provision of intervention strategies for children and their families, including counseling, parenting, case management and crisis intervention.
• Skilled in using efficient office production, communication systems and proper use and care of technology.
• Ability to think creatively, to problem solve, and to respond appropriately to emergency or crisis situations.
• Participates in regular meetings, training programs and conferences.
• Assist the Building Administration with the provision of services and duties essential to the operation of the school. Maintain a collaborative support between the school and partners in service to students and families, notably an emphasis with the Klamath Tribes services.
• Provide incentives for positive behavior, stressing good attendance, behavior, and classroom success.
• Ability to attend after-hours events periodically to support school and tribal initiatives and culture.
• It is preferred this person qualify for and receive a Type 10 licensure for the transporting of students in district vehicles.


3. CULTURAL & TRIBAL COMPETENCE
• Knowledge of and experience working with the customs, culture, and nature of tribal families and tribal youth.
• Knowledge of Tribal services available for students and families.
• Ability to act as liaison between local schools and Tribal Education Department and parents.
• Work ethic and moral character as required by The Klamath Tribes and the Klamath County School District.

 

Regular attendance is an essential function of this position.

**This is a temporary, grant funded position.**  

This position may end when grant funding expires.

$18.60-20.94/Hour

190 Days/Year (prorated based on start date)
